HUD provides Capital Fund Program grants to Public Housing Authorities annually for the development, financing, and modernization of Public Housing properties and for management improvements.
“The Trenton Housing Authority thanks U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia L. Fudge, and the entire HUD team for the Capital Fund Program Grant Award,” said Jelani Garrett, Executive Director of the THA. “This is the largest Capital Fund Program allocation that the THA has received in many years. We are committed to providing safe, quality, affordable housing opportunities in Trenton and we will use the funding to improve and ensure the long term sustainability of affordable housing in Trenton.”
The grant is part of $3.2 billion in fiscal year 2022 Capital Fund Program awards to 2,813 public housing agencies in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than $99 million was awarded to the 56 public housing authorities in New Jersey. The THA’s $6.26 million allocation is the third largest awarded in the state, behind only Jersey City ($7.7million) and Newark ($27.4 million).
“It is essential for public housing authorities to preserve existing affordable housing, and this HUD funding will go a long way to assist with major improvements,” said Alicka Ampry-Samuel, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. “HUD’s Capital Fund Program allocates funding annually for the development, financing, and modernization of public housing properties and management improvements to ensure their residents’ health, safety, and quality of life.”
